The Center for Victims of Torture exists to heal the wounds of torture on individuals, their families, and their communities and to stop torture worldwide. We work locally, nationally and internationally to build healing communities where torture survivors feel welcomed, protected and healed.

JOB TITLE: Human Rights Online Community Builder
LOCATION: Twin Cities Metro

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
New Tactics in Human Rights Project:
The Online Community Builder will work as part of the New Tactics in Human Rights Project, an international initiative focused on gathering and sharing hundreds of innovative human rights approaches from all around the world. The goal of the project is to help human rights activists adapt or create their own innovations in order to help them be more effective in addressing human rights issues.

Responsibilities:
The Online Community Builder provides program and administrative support to the New Tactics project, focusing on facilitating communication among global human rights advocates.
• Online Community Building: promote and share the New Tactics community-based website, materials, strategic and tactical thinking and tools by building a network of human rights advocates globally. Research, write, and edit content for the website and other publications. Develop and implement an electronic outreach plan.
• Subgrant Program Coordination: Coordinate subgrant program, including application, training, reporting, evaluation and dissemination. Build collaboration among subgrantees and New Tactics network.
• Information Communication Technology- Maintain website - serving as project manager and primary editor. Manage registrations, mailing lists, group forums, databases, and on-line facilitation tools. Research and develop monthy e-newsletter.
• General Administration and CVT-wide Responsibilities:

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
BA in international studies, political science, or related field. MA highly desirable. 2 years experience developing communities or organizing groups or individuals into effective communities. Strong commitment to advancing international human rights. Human rights promotion and educational experience strongly preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with developing regular communications (newsletters, blogs, monthly reports, etc.) Strong computer skils, preferably experience with website maintenance. Competency using MS Office software and databases. Good detail organization and ability to manage multiple tasks at once within established deadlines. Ability to work independently and be a self-starter. Demonstrated ability to work cross-culturally and ability to work collaboratively within a small team. Flexibility to accommodate periodic communication with international partners in the evening, night or early morning. Language skills in Spanish, French or Russian are desirable. Interest and experience providing training to others desirable.
