Feed My Starving Children to hire a Director of Materials

Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a Christian organization based in Minneapolis. After several years of rapid growth, FMSC now has three locations in the Twin Cities and one site in Chicago. Founded in 1987, FMSC works with worldwide humanitarian organizations to distribute food to starving children. In 2006, 137,000 volunteers assembled more than 30 million meals of rice, high protein soy nuggets, vegetables, vitamins, minerals and flavoring. Feed My Starving Children’s powerful program involves America’s youth working together to heal the hurt of hunger around the world.
JOB TITLE: Director of Materials
LOCATION: Twin Cities Metro
SALARY: DOQ TYPE: Full Time DEADLINE: 2/3/2008
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manage all procurement activities including vendor assessment, negotiations, and contracts. Develop and manage a preferred vendor process, ensuring accountability, quality, and complaint resolution.
2. Complete and execute materials requirement planning at the site and enterprise level.
3. Direct procurement activities.
4. Manage all site and mobile packing inventories. Ensure that appropriate levels of inventories are accurately maintained.
5. Collaborate with development personnel to secure gift-in-kind material donations and discounts.
6. Manage and coordinate all domestic freight operations. This includes in bound freight and all offsite packing operations. Coordination of international outbound shipments will be as required.
7. Assist the Director of Operations in developing strategies and tactics that improve operations across the entire supply chain as it relates to the production and distribution of FMSC food.
8. Supervise procurement and warehouse personnel as assigned.
9. Perform additional duties as required.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A Bachelors degree or equivalent experience. APICS certification highly desired.
Experience: 3-5 years of materials and supply chain management. Experience in the food industry is a plus.
Professional Characteristics: Candidates should have a strong desire to use their talents to serve God’s people in need. Experience should demonstrate the ability to plan and execute supply chain functions for multiple locations. A high degree of organization, decision making, and negotiation skills are required. The ability to present a professional demeanor at all times is also required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
this newly created position directs all activities associated with material and services procurement that ensure efficient operations of all Feed My Starving Children packing and facility operations. This includes but is not limited to vendor management, domestic logistics, and support for offsite packing events. Commitment to support the Christian mission and goals of Feed My Starving Children.
Works out of the Eagan, Minnesota location.
