Business people, policy makers and NGOs active in Africa will be gathering at the University of Minnesota on October 4-5, 2007 for an international conference on trade and investment opportunities in Africa. On Saturday October 5, in conjunction with the conference, “African Day at the Mall” will be celebrated at the Mall of America. There will be music, poetry, fashion, drumming and African headgear demonstrations. Limited display tables are currently available at highly discounted rates. MINN member organization American Refugee Committee (ARC) invites you to participate in the variety of events occurring in conjunction with Minnesota Human Rights Week.
“A Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City: Minneapolis” is an outdoor educational exhibit consisting of actual structures and materials you would find in a real refugee camp. This exhibit is sponsored by Doctors without Borders/MSF in Loring Park in Minneapolis and is open from September 27th through September 29th.
On October 3rd, ARC and the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis present a Brownbag Lunch on: Using Video as a Tool to Empower Survivors of Gender-Based Violence. Connie Kamara, ARC Senior Technical Advisor for Global Health, will talk about the different approaches taken to advance women’s health through a human rights approach. Kamara - recently returned from Darfur, Sudan - will highlight community-based video and show footage from ARC’s internationally-recognized participatory video project “Through Our Eyes”.
