Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of position: This position exists to assist people who contact Global Volunteers by providing them oral and written information about Global Volunteers’ service programs and Philosophy of Service. The principle function is to facilitate a decision making process whereby prospective volunteers are able to make an informed commitment to participate on a Global Volunteers service program, both financially and physically. This is a challenging and very rewarding position whose specific responsibility is to recruit volunteers to participate on short-term service programs.

Pan African Trade & Investment Summit to Occur in Minnesota

Business people, policy makers and NGOs active in Africa will be gathering at the University of Minnesota on October 4-5, 2007 for an international conference on trade and investment opportunities in Africa. On Saturday October 5, in conjunction with the conference, “African Day at the Mall” will be celebrated at the Mall of America. There will be music, poetry, fashion, drumming and African headgear demonstrations. Limited display tables are currently available at highly discounted rates. Minnesota Human Rights Week Events

MINN member organization American Refugee Committee (ARC) invites you to participate in the variety of events occurring in conjunction with Minnesota Human Rights Week.

“A Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City: Minneapolis” is an outdoor educational exhibit consisting of actual structures and materials you would find in a real refugee camp. This exhibit is sponsored by Doctors without Borders/MSF in Loring Park in Minneapolis and is open from September 27th through September 29th.

On October 3rd, ARC and the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis present a Brownbag Lunch on: Using Video as a Tool to Empower Survivors of Gender-Based Violence. Connie Kamara, ARC Senior Technical Advisor for Global Health, will talk about the different approaches taken to advance women’s health through a human rights approach. Kamara - recently returned from Darfur, Sudan - will highlight community-based video and show footage from ARC’s internationally-recognized participatory video project “Through Our Eyes”. Volunteer Position in Darfur

American Refugee Committee International - Darfur Program

Title: Volunteer Administration and Human Resources Officer
Location: Khartoum, Sudan
Reports to: Country Director
Supervises: Liaison Officers, Receptionist/Secretary
Duration: This is a full time, six month position with a possibility of an extension.

ARC Sudan implements emergency response and rehabilitation activities in South Darfur in the areas of primary health care (including reproductive health and nutrition), water/sanitation, education and livelihoods.

The Volunteer Administration and Human Resource Officer will be based in Khartoum and will oversee all administrative and human resources activities for Khartoum and South Darfur. This position will report directly to the Country Director and will receive technical support and guidance from the Financial Comptroller and Head of Field Missions. This is a temporary post to recruit, strengthen the capacity of a national Administration and Human Resources Manager and hand over.

ARC will provide plane fare, housing, and a small cash stipend for food and miscellaneous expenses. Volunteer must provide their own health insurance.
